Great Scott! One lucky Southwest Florida resident is now a proud owner of an all-new 2022 Acura ILX…and it’s all thanks to charity!

United Way Stage While the awarded 2022 Acura ILX doesn’t have a built-in time machine, it certainly has the style. The car was presented as a gift from Scanlon Auto Group employees at the 2021 United Way of Lee, Hendry, Glades and Okeechobee Counties’ annual campaign kickoff event.

The ‘Back to the Future’ movie-themed event took place on Wednesday, November 3rd. It was held at the Caloosa Sound Convention Center in downtown Fort Myers.

United Way GroupScanlon Auto Group has been a proud community partner of the United Way of Lee, Hendry, Glades and Okeechobee for years. Several employees and members of management were on hand at the event to award a two-year lease for the 2022 Acura ILX to one lucky winner!

This year’s lucky winner was Laurel, an employee at Waterman Broadcasting. She accepted her new Acura ILX with joyous tears and giant smiles.

To be eligible for this prize, a person must pledge to donate to United Way through their workplace campaign and with a donation of at least $5 per pay period (totaling at least $240 per year).

But the giving didn’t stop there. As Marty McFly would say, “If you put your mind to it, you can accomplish anything.”

In 2020, the United Way of Lee, Hendry, Glades and Okeechobee Counties’ annual campaign kickoff event was held via Zoom, following pandemic-related guidelines. However, the campaign still raised $10.8 million for the local communities.

United Way CarThis year, organizers set out to beat that amount, setting a goal of $11.3 million. By the end of the kick-off, the organization had already exceeded the halfway mark with $6.1 million raised.

If our calculations are correct, then about 750 community members and sponsors attended the 2021 campaign kick-off event! Scanlon Auto Group was honored to be a part of the event and continues to be an active member of the community.

The fight against cancer has been a long, open road, but Scanlon Auto Group did its part in making that journey a little faster. Our company joined forces with the American Cancer Society to raise funds for our friends and neighbors who are battling the disease.

On Saturday, October 23rd, the American Cancer Society hosted its 17th Annual Lee County Cattle Baron’s Ball, much to the delight of the entire community. It was held at the Edison & Ford Winter Estates in Fort Myers. Eight Scanlon Auto team members took part in the joyous event, participating in a truly one-of-a-kind evening.

The night did not disappoint! From mouthwatering food options to boisterous dancing and a spectacular auction, there was a little something for everyone to enjoy. Great local bands–Gator Nate, The Last of the Gladezmen, & the Ben Allen Band–rounded out the charity’s live entertainment.

The merriment continued off the dance floor as well. Local companies, groups, and individuals had the chance to donate auction items for attendees to bid on. Big ticket auction packages included spa offers, jewelry, and much more.

For years, Scanlon Auto has made an appearance, in attendance and sponsorship, at the Cattle Baron’s Ball. The event has remained near and dear to our company’s heart and values. We’ve held great pride in being a part of such a prestigious event while aiding in the fight against cancer.

One-Hundred Years of Leading the Fight

For over a century, the American Cancer Society has taken a stand against cancer in communities across the United States. From 1991 to 2018, the U.S. cancer death rate dropped 31%, resulting in 3.2 million fewer deaths during that time.

Therefore, the American Cancer Society’s work is vital to not only our country, but to our community—to Lee County.  And while the past year has been challenging, the organization continued to see progress being made in the fight against cancer.

The American Cancer Society has remained the nation’s preeminent cancer-fighting organization and is committed to moving us even closer to a world without cancer by continuing to build on this progress.

Standing Together Creates Change

Scanlon Auto Group’s support of the American Cancer Society, along with the continued and tenacious support of the community, has helped usher in an era where more people survive cancer than ever before.

Since 1991, the country has seen a 29% decline in cancer death rates. That’s through extraneous research and action by the American Cancer Society.

The axe throwing booth proved to be a highlight of the event.

Scanlon Auto Group employees are stepping out from behind the wheel and onto the green fields of the golf course to help local children in need. This September, our company is sponsoring the 1st Annual Golf Tournament in support of the Boys and Girls Club of Lee County.

The non-profit organization provides many quality programs for kids and young adults to achieve academic success and live a thriving, healthy lifestyle. Scanlon Auto Group is a large supporter of the Boys and Girls Club of Lee County and has been sponsoring several of its events—including the annual Texas Hold’Em Poker Tournament—since 2014.

All the proceeds from the Golf Tournament go towards the non-profit, and towards aiding local families. Community members get involved by participating in the tournament, purchasing a golf ball for the ball drop, or buying raffle tickets for a chance to win some great prizes.

This is just one of the many ways our company strives to be active in its community and give back every year.

The Boys and Girls Club of Lee Countys Golf Tournament is set to take place on September 17, 2021, at 7:30 a.m.

How We Give Back

The Scanlon Auto Group family has been committed to Southwest Florida since 1980. We have always believed that building strong relationships with employees, customers and our communities are the key to our success.

Because of this, we continue to seek out local events and charities that promote childrens health, education, and overall well-being. In addition, we find ways to help keep our home clean and safe by supporting programs that aim to protect the environment and our local wildlife. And, of course, we also want to see our local Arts and Theater community thriving and have added these types of organizations to our sponsorship list as well.

In addition to the Boys & Girls Club of Lee County, Scanlon Automotive has been major sponsors of the American Cancer Society, the American Heart Association, and the Children’s Hospital of Southwest Florida, they are also major contributors to Habit for Humanity, The United Way of Lee County, The Junior League of Fort Myers, ECHO Global Food & Farm Festival, Arts for ACT, The Harry Chapin Food Bank, SW Florida Regional Human Trafficking Coalition, and many other organizations that support the people and the Arts in our area.

Acura TLX Type S old to new

What’s so special about a Type S? Let’s look at the history of the iconic vehicles that have worn the Type S badge. From 2001 through 2008, Type S models played a big role in Acura’s performance lineup.

Older Acura Type S

The concept for Type S performance models began with the 1997 NSX Type S in Japan, which led Honda R&D engineers in America to create a prototype coupe called the AC-R.

Before we get caught up in history (see the entire history below), let’s catch you up on the new generation of Type S.

Powered by the new Type S Turbo V6, the TLX Type S boasts 355-horsepower, 354-lb.-ft. of torque, a quick-shifting 10-speed automatic transmission, standard torque-vectoring Super Handling All-Wheel Drive™ (a Type S first), a sport tuned suspension and Brembo® front brakes. The all-new 2021 Acura TLX Type S is available in two variations.

The TLX Type S features 20-inch multi-spoke wheels with Pirelli Cinturato P7 all-Season tires. Those seeking even more performance can opt for the TLX Type S with High Performance Wheel and Tire Package, which brings NSX-inspired split 5-spoke wheels, reducing unsprung mass by more than 21 lbs., and 255-series Pirelli P-Zero summer tires.

If you’re shopping for an all-new 2021 Acura TLX Type S, Scanlon Acura is your Acura dealership in Fort Myers, Cape Coral, Bonita Springs, Fort Myers Beach and all of Southwest Florida for new and used Acura vehicles.

We told you there was more! Later this year the 2022 Acura MDX Type S will be revealed. It’ll be the first Acura SUV to ever wear the Type S badge. The MDX Type S will be powered by the 355-horsepower Type S Turbo V6, and will also feature standard SH-AWD®. Southwest Florida drivers might not equate luxury with towing but why not haul your load around town in style? Just how much can a 2022 Acura MDX tow? When equipped with all-wheel drive, the maximum towing capacity of the MDX is an impressive 5,000 pounds. Along with its double-wishbone suspension, that’s plenty of power to get your family and your boat or jet skis to the Cape Coral Yacht Club in style. In short, the 2022 Acura MDX is a performance vehicle with an available trailer hitch!

See the cool commercial from the MDX Launch Campaign:

We get asked the question all the time, “how much can the 2022 Acura MDX tow?” The answer is up to 5,000 pounds with the A-Spec and Advance Package versions of the 2022 MDX offered with SH-AWD. The front-wheel-drive in the base and Technology models can haul up to 3,500 pounds.

The 2022 Acura MDX doesn’t just tow toys, it tows the entire family with its three-row, roomy seating configuration that is powered by one of the most capable powertrains in its class. A naturally aspirated 3.5-liter, V-6 engine is attached to a 10-speed automatic transmission producing 290 horsepower and 267 pound-feet of torque.

To find out what the Acura MDX for sale in Fort Myers can tow, you’ll want to add up the weight of the trailer and anything inside the trailer. You’ll also need to figure in the weight of any cargo you’ll be carrying inside the vehicle. A 5,000-pound towing capacity allows you to carry many recreational boats or a small RV. If you’re going camping by the beach at Red Coconut RV Park in Fort Myers Beach, it’s the perfect vehicle for you.

Wondering just what you could tow that comes in around 5,000 pounds? Besides boats and RVs, some items include a car, a forklift, a granite statue, a large meteor, or a black rhino.

The 2022 Acura MDX has landed at Scanlon Acura in Fort Myers and it is a stunner! The first eye-catching change is the “longer, lower and wider” design on the outside. Inside the cabin, there’s more style and tech. Some new features include a redesigned digital gauge cluster and infotainment system touchpad. Another cool feature is the removeable second-row middle seat which essentially creates captain chairs allowing easy access to the third row. Other features make it feel like it was designed for hitting the beaches of Southwest Florida. Picture your family loading up for a trip to Captiva Beach and being able to fold down the third-row seats to pile in your beach chairs, umbrella, cooler, kids toys and more.

This new MDX is so highly advanced, you will want to race to Scanlon Acura to take a look for yourself. In the meantime, our Sales & Leasing Consultant Sam OrisDeRoa climbs into the driver’s seat to take us for a short spin around Ft. Myers while he points out the amazing new features.

Some additional highlights of the fourth generation Acura MDX include:

  • Hidden USB ports
  • Hidden, deep rear storage with a reversible floor mat
  • 360-degree cameras
  • Full size iPhone charging tray
  • Huge infotainment screen

Another unique aspect of the engine/powertrain is the addition of a shutter grille. When needed, the shutters in the lower part of the grilled close to divert air around the MDX, reducing drag. When the engine needs cooling, the shutters reopen. It’s perfect for our Southwest Florida climate. This flagship Acura will get the Type S performance treatment in summer of 2021!

When it comes to crash tests, the engineers at Acura are no crash test dummies. The 2021 Acura TLX is the first model in the Acura lineup to feature all-new, next generation passenger front airbag technology. It’s designed to work like a “catcher’s mitt” by basically reaching out and grabbing passengers’ heads in the event of a front-end collision.

The design is so good that it was just awarded as a “Best of What’s New” for 2020 by Popular Science magazine and was further distinguished as their “Grand Award” winner among all of the year’s automotive entrants.

The next generation airbag was developed for frontal oblique offset crashes where a car is hit at such an angle (front and side) that it causes the vehicle to rotate more than a head-on collision. This type of offset car crash causes an occupant’s head to rotate severely at high velocity, potentially sliding off a conventional airbag and hitting the dashboard, increasing the chance of serious brain injury.

This next generation airbag is a first and it was developed by Acura safety engineering experts in Ohio. Most airbags are shaped like a “V.” This new airbag has three chambers, and the center chamber is offset from the two outboard chambers forming a “catcher’s mitt” that grabs the head. The new airbag is designed to help reduce head and neck injuries by better controlling the front passenger’s head in certain types of crashes. Think of it like the hands of Acura engineers embracing someone during a crash. The design is said to reduce the likelihood of brain damage by 75 percent.

In addition to the new passenger front airbag, the 2021 TLX now includes knee airbags for the driver and front passenger. There are eight airbags in total.

This is not the first airbag innovation from Acura. In 1991, Acura revealed the world’s first vertically deploying front passenger airbag with a unique design that reduced the potential for injury from a deploying airbag. The design was later adopted by the auto industry. The new front passenger airbag in the 2021 Acura TLX, co-developed by Honda R&D Americas and safety systems supplier, Autoliv, is now being offered to other automakers to enhance safety performance for their future products.

When it comes to the NHTSA’s testing for 5-Star Safety Ratings, the TLX tops the list of MY 2021 vehicles selected for testing.*

The new airbag technology will also be standard on the all-new Acura MDX three-row luxury SUV, on sale early next year.

The 2021 Acura TLX is available now at Scanlon Acura. Stop by for a test-drive or Scanlon Acura can bring the test drive to you!

*Government 5-Star Safety Ratings are part of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s (NHTSA’s) New Car Assessment Program (www.SaferCar.gov) • Government 5-Star Safety Ratings are part of the U.S. Department of Transportation’s New Car Assessment Program (www.SaferCar.gov)

The Acura MDX has been a powerhouse since it debuted in 2000 as the North American Truck of the Year. The original 2001 Acura MDX was the industry’s first three-row crossover SUV!

Over the past 20 years, across three generations of development, MDX has established itself as America’s all-time best-selling three-row luxury SUV and one of only a handful of luxury models to earn more than 1 million U.S. customers in the past two decades. MDX is also the best-selling Acura model of all-time.

What is new with 2022 MDX and how can it be improved? The fourth-generation MDX is undergoing a massive makeover. The new MDX will assume the flagship role in the Acura lineup with a low and wide stance, taking design cues from the 2021 TLX. The bold new design and luxuriously appointed interior of the new MDX will be backed by an arsenal of new Acura technologies, an all-new platform and the first application of the Type S high-performance moniker to an Acura SUV. Let’s look at a 2019 and 2020 MDX compared to 2022 MDX.

Three generations of MDX

2022 Acura MDX 2020 Acura MDX 2019 Acura MDX
  Engine 3.5-liter V6 with i-VTEC® with 10-speed automatic transmission 3.5L V-6 3.5L V-6
  Horsepower 290 290 290
  MPG (City/Highway) Not yet released 20/27* 20/27**

Sure, the new MDX has the same 290-hp 3.5-liter V-6 as the outgoing model, but it’s now tied to a 10-speed automatic transmission. Front-wheel drive is standard with all-wheel drive available as an option. The 2022 Acura MDX features an updated suspension, a wonderfully improved cabin, and a new 12.3-inch infotainment screen loaded with tech. The powerful Type S variant will feature a 3.0L turbo V-6 engine producing an estimated 355-HP and 354 lb-ft of torque.

Elevated Exterior

The all-new exterior design of the 2022 Acura MDX makes a bold statement with a more muscular design and imposing presence. The longer, wider and lower body are signature elements of Acura’s next-generation design language. A three-dimensional Diamond Pentagon grille is flanked by Chicane™ LED daytime running lights, inspired by the Acura ARX-05 race car. The front fascia has been sculpted to highlight the wide grille, giving the MDX a look that will prove to be a strong yet dramatic presence in Southwest Florida.

Incomparable Interior

The precision crafted cockpit of the 2022 Acura MDX boasts a more premium and sophisticated design.

Superior craftsmanship includes quilted leather-trimmed seats, open-pore wood, polished aluminum, and soft-touch Milano leather. French stitched detailing on the steering wheel grabs the driver and the next-generation Acura sport seats with front seat massagers keeps passengers pleased, along with more legroom in all three rows. A panoramic moonroof lets you see the sun or the stars when driving through Downtown Naples.

In a nutshell, the 2022 Acura MDX shifts the popular SUV from the analog age to the digital age on the inside, and outside, a sleek, more European style will turn heads as you drive along Fifth Avenue in Downtown Naples and grab glances when pulling up to the Luminary Hotel in Downtown Fort Myers, Florida and beyond.

2021 TLX A-Spec

It doesn’t happen often, but the day your battery dies in your key fob, it will probably make for a very bad morning. Don’t panic! And certainly, do not hit your panic button. Your neighbors won’t like you. Trust me. We’re here to teach you how to easily replace the battery and get you on the road in Fort Myers, Florida.

These instructions will work for most Acura key fobs unless your Acura is a very early model.

Before you change the battery, however, you can use the key fob itself to depress the engine start/stop button with the brake pedal depressed to start the vehicle if the keyless remote battery has failed.

Acura Key Fob Replacement – Acura Keyless Remote

  1. Slide key release tab to the left to release the emergency key.
  2. While holding the key fob remote level with the buttons face down, to prevent the key-less remote buttons from being displaced, use a nickel or the emergency key itself to gently separate the two halves of the key fob remote at the seam.
  3. Once the two halves of the keyless remote are separated, carefully place the half with the buttons face down (buttons facing down) on a surface and gently remove the keyless remote battery using a screwdriver.
  4. Replace the battery and ensure the positive end is facing up.
  5. With the top half of the key fob still facing button down on a surface, or the palm of your hand, gently reattach the second half of the keyless remote to the first half until it pops into place.
  6. Reinsert emergency key.

Look for the numbers on the battery and match those to a replacement battery.

Note: It is important to keep the buttons face down and the fob level when replacing the keyless remote battery because the buttons (lock, unlock etc) can fall out of position, and would need to be placed back into their respective slots if they become displaced.

HIDDEN TALENT

Did you know your Acura key fob has some hidden capabilities that you may not have discovered?

As you know, the fob is your key to starting your engine remotely. In the hot Fort Myers Beach sun, you can use your fob to open all your windows and sunroof before getting back into your car after the beach. Just hold the unlock button to get some fresh air circulating. When hitting the town in Naples or anywhere your Acura takes you, did you know the little green light gives you confirmation that the door truly locked? Another nice safety feature prevents you from locking your key in the trunk when you’re on Sanibel Island or somewhere remote. If your key drops out into your trunk and you close it, the car will beep, and the trunk will pop open.

New Acura vehicles equipped with Acura’s smartphone app-based option, AcuraLink, can receive a remote unlock signal to get into the car if the key fob is dead. The service is available through the app, or via PC.

AcuraLink also allows you to connect to your vehicle from almost anywhere. Convenience and security are at the touch of a button. For newer Acura models, AcuraLink provides remote start and stop, helps you maintain peak performance, checks your vehicle’s health, gives you access to 24/7 assistance, and you can even get Amazon packages delivered directly inside your car with Key by Amazon in-car delivery.

After your battery is replaced, you can get back on the road to your Southwest Florida destination quickly.

The MDX was built for fun. Accessories weren’t just an afterthought. There are endless combinations that let you customize the look and capabilities of your SUV. Southwest Florida thrillseekers will love the Surf/Paddleboard Attachment. Transport two boards up to 34 inches wide to the ocean.
